Traditionally worn by the samurai to protect a horseman's legs from brush, weeds, etc. After the samurai made the transition from mounted to foot soldiers, they continued to wear the hakama to set them apart and identify them. The kendo top is a heavy, 100% white cotton jacket with 3/4 sleeves, which is suitable for a variety of martial arts. The hakama pants are 100% black rayon with fully pleated legs and koshiato in the back, which allows ties for a comfortable fit around the waist.
