From the creative mind of award winning directorRidley Scott, comes an epic story of the Crusades,“Kingdom of Heaven.” Set between the years of theSecond and Third Crusades, the story follows a youngman’s adventure, which leads him to the Holy Land andeventually the defense of Jerusalem itself. With arich cast, which includes Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson,Jeremy Irons and Edward Norton, director Scott makes asweeping statement of war and the men who fought it.
The Kingdom of Heaven Collection was one of the mostambitious licensing projects ever tackled. Over 43exact replicas were produced over a period of ninemonths. These included, swords, scabbards, helmets, axes, maces, tunics, capes, dresses and masks.Extensive research was done by flying to England andmeeting with the creative team behind this monumentalfilm. The actual film props were studied and in somecases borrowed, to insure that the pieces, which wereproduced at the consumer level, would be every bit asauthentic to the actual movie prop as possible.
Unlike the lightweight aluminum blades and plasticarmor, which are used in current motion pictureproduction, the design team at Windlass Steelcraftshad to resurrect these swords and helmets using ”real” steel, leather, brass and sterling silver. Theswords were made fully-functional, utilizing highcarbon steel and had true balance and form. Thehelmets were produced with adjustable liners and hadall of the detailed craftsmanship, which only Windlasscan produce. Even director Scott, when presented witha copy of The Sword of Ibelin in real steel, wasamazed at the lightweight performance and the beautythat the Windlass copy possessed.
Overall, the relationship that Windlass Steelcraftshad with Twentieth Century Fox, Scott FreeProductions, armorer Simon Atherton and the assortedcraftsmen used on this film, has taken our companyinto a whole new exciting realm of both licensedmotion picture collectables, as well as actual film props.
